Michael White Presents Workshop for MWEP Startup program

Dublin and Letterkenny, 4 January 2012

A group of technology startup companies will learn how to launch and promote their new products using digital marketing at a one day seminar in Galway Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) this month.

Hosted by GMIT and the Midlands and Western Enterprise Program (MWEP), the seminar will be delivered by Michael White, director of DohertyWhite, the digital marketing and technology consultancy.

Understanding digital marketing is vital to any technology startups seeking to export their products or services. During the one-day seminar Michael will explain what digital marketing tools are available and will illustrate a step by step process that startup companies can use when planning a product launch.  He will also discuss the particular challenges of promoting complex technology for business-to-business (B2B) markets.

“When someone is looking for a product or service today the first place they look is online” says Michael.  “Start-ups need to learn how to use their websites, social media and web marketing tools so they can grow their business and achieve some kind of scale.”

The seminar will begin by focusing on two key principles, understanding what your buyers want and being clear about the value you provide.

“If you really understand your customers and you can explain the value your product will bring them then the rest of your marketing becomes a lot easier”, says Michael.  “Once we have these first two points covered, we can then look at the tactical issues of how to revise your website or how to approach search engine optimization”.

The seminar, “Digital Marketing for Startups”, will take place on 12th January in the Business Centre at GMIT in Castlebar, County Mayo.

The Midlands and West Enterprise Program (MWEP) is a business development programme that provides high potential entrepreneurs and innovative start-ups with the business skills, networks, facilities and supports necessary to navigate the business start-up process from concept to successful commercialisation. The MWEP is based in the Innovation in Business Centre at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology and the Midlands Innovation and Research Centre at Athlone Institute of Technology and is run in partnership with Enterprise Ireland.
